McKillop and Plane Get it done in
Tempe!!

Caro McKillop and Jenni Plane almost made the Ironman look
easy as they both put together awesome races in Tempe on Sunday.
Caro's
first Ironman attempt went perfectly. Just like she did in
long sessions in her training, she stayed steady all day and
just kept clicking off the miles. Off the bike, she felt
strong and locked into her run pace - which she maintained
throughout the entire run, even in the last few miles and passed
over a hundred other athletes throughout the course of the
marathon. Her goal coming into her race was to finish,
with a time goal of under 15 hours. Well, she certainly
did that - finishing in 13:54.11. Awesome job Caro!
You are an Ironman!
Jenni, due
to her late season race schedule being focused on the Olympic
distance, came into her Ironman with limited training and only a
couple of long bricks under her belt. Because of that, she
wasn't completely sure what her time would be, although her main
goal was to make big improvements on her first Ironman which was
in Tempe two years ago. Her strategy was to stay steady
and conserve energy as much as possible and have a solid
marathon. She definitely did that - she exited the water
in just over 60 minutes and conservatively finished the bike in
6:15, putting her 26th in her age group and almost 20 minutes
ahead of her 2009 Ironman time. As she took off on the
run, she felt strong and tried to find a comfortable run pace.
Jenni was able to pass over 250 other athletes and climb into the
top 20 of her age group with a solid 4:14 marathon split and a
total time of 11:37.39 - which was over 90 minutes faster than
her first Ironman. Way to go Jenni!

Plane Gets Pro Card at Pacific Grove!
September 13, 2011
|
This weekend was a big one for Total
Intensity Sports’ Jenni Plane.
Jenni was racing at Pacific Grove with her target on the
top three in order to qualify for her pro card.
Jenni had very strong swim (24.01 – 3rd
fastest among the women) and bike (1.09.49 – 2nd
fastest) splits, but due to some issues in transition, was in
fifth place as she exited T2.
She put together her strongest 10K run and broke 41
minutes for the first time ever, catching all but one of the
women in front of her and placing second with an overall time of
2.19.01. Her second
place overall finish is good enough for Jenni to turn pro and
begin racing as an elite in 2012.
Way to go Jenni!!
Also racing this weekend was Eric
Williamson at the Big Kahuna Triathlon.
Eric overcame a crash in the first five miles of the
bike, and subsequent 20+ minute delay, to complete his first
full 70.3 event in 5.43.09.
Great job Eric – way to stay tough!

Great Results in July for Plane,
McIntosh and others! July 25, 2011
Jenni Plane continued her strong
season in July by first setting a personal best at the Olympic
distance at the July Tri-for-Real, winning her second
consecutive overall women's title with a time of 2.15.57.
Jenni's race was highlighted by her fastest 10K ever - 46.26.
A couple weeks later at Vineman 70.3, Jenni posted her fastest
half ironman. Jen's swim split at Vineman was a very fast
27.49, 3rd in her age group and run was her fastest 70.3 half
marathon - 1.45.14, including a negative split. Way to
race Jenni!
Also racing well at Vineman were Mike French,
who had a personal best himself of 5.26.24, including his
fastest half ironman swim and bike split and within 10 seconds
of a run personal best. Lajra Williams also put out a very
strong race - her second fastest half ironman, and fastest time
on the Vineman course - with a time of 6.26.54. Allison
Zwingenberger raced very well with a time of 6.18.40 and special
congratulations to John McIntosh who completed his first 70.3
event with a very good time of 5.34.31 - awesome job John!
Earlier in July, John McIntosh went to the San Francisco
Triathlon and accomplished a big season goal - qualifying for
USAT Nationals! John raced really well and placed 5th in
his age group with a time of 2.47.24 including the 4th fastest
bike split in his age group and 5th fastest run split. Way
to go John!
This past weekend also marked Nicole Young's
return to racing after a near fatal bout with a horrible
infection last fall (story
here). Nicole competed as a part of a relay
team at Eppie's this year and ended up on the podium again.
Her team placed second in the all-female division.
Nicole's bike split was 32.30, second fastest among the women
relay cyclists and only seconds off of her bike split last year
when she won the women's title outright. Way to go Nicole!
Also racing at Eppie's was Mark Barrett, who overcame a limiting
cold the week of the race to finish in the top five overall and
thrid in his age group with a very strong time of 1.49.02.
Great work Mark! First-time Eppie's racer Victor Chu had
an awesome day finishing in 2.41.07. Victor started
training with Total Intensity Sports only 11 weeks ago and had
been challenged by a 1/2 mile run when he began training.
Awesome job Victor!
Other July race results include
Oliver Isidro racing well at the July Tri-for-Real with a time
of 2.40.31 and Caro McKillop placing 5th in her age group at the
July Tri-for-Fun with a time of 1.40.41.
Great job
everyone! |
